Leasing Questions for Mineral Owners
- Can an operator drill beneath your property from their drill site?
- Where will the physical drill site be established?
- Does the company own several leases around you and do they have a good reputation?
- What is the company’s drilling history in your area?
- Did the company maintain a positive relationship with past property owners who leased their land?
- Is the company leasing the property from you operating the wells, or will they sell the lease to another operator?
- Obtain references with names and phone numbers from the company.
Hiring an Attorney
Know your legal rights and protect your current and future interests. Always consult an attorney who specializes in oil and gas dealings, and do not sign an oil and gas agreement without completely understanding the terms of the lease. If you do not feel comfortable entering into an agreement with a company, you can decline an offer to lease your mineral rights.
